Boys Tennis Match Report Oundle Vs Oakham 22/5/21

After another week of interruption to training from the elements, yesterday afternoon saw the rematch against Oakham. It was a home fixture for boys tennis, with the exception of 2 teams whose fixtures were cancelled last minute due to the weather. With the majority of the boys in the thick of exams, they must all be congratulated on their efforts yesterday and the scores reflect such effort.

Starting with the lower years. In the U14A team, it was a tight affair with Oakham marginally winning 5-4. By contrast in the U15A team, it was a 5-4 win with some outstanding performances by Oundle winning by one game to seal the victory. Finally, in the U16A, the 5th form sealed a convincing win of 6-3, showing their improvement from the last times result.

In the senior boys squads it was just the 1st and 2nd team this week with the 3rd teams fixture cancelled. Starting with the 2nd team, they unfortunately lost 6-3 overall against a strong Oakham side. However, it was a much closer affair this time to that of the previous fixture and credit must go to Stefan Wang and James Read who won 2/3 of their games with an exceptional victory against their second pair. Finally the 1st team demolished Oakham 7-2 which was an improvement on the 6-3 win last time. The true depth of talent in the 1st team is wonderful to see as players such as Theo Mellor took the call to play in the 1st team 1st pair and played some of his best tennis this season so far. The 1st team still remain undefeated as we head into half term next week!
