Boys Tennis Match Report Oundle Vs Uppingham

Boys Tennis Match Report Oundle vs Uppingham 24/04/21 After missing last year’s competitive tennis fixtures, it was wonderful to see so many boys compete against Uppingham this weekend. Whilst half remained in Oundle for a home fixture, the other half ventured to Uppingham, where the scene was set for a lovely afternoon of tennis in the sunshine. The Oundle team had only had two training sessions this week and the majority of boys had not played tennis since last September. It is a fair summary to state that each and every player put up a fight on the court, whether it resulted in a win or a loss and represented the school in an exemplary manner. In the home fixture, both the U14 A and B team secured a 6-3 victory, with many of these boys competing in their first tennis fixture for the school; showing a promising season ahead for them, as well as a promising future representing the school at a competitive level. Furthermore, the U15A team won 6-3, however the U15B team lost 8-1. In the away fixture, the 1st team, 2nd team, 3rd team and the U16A’s all fought hard against a strong Uppingham team. Unfortunately, both the 2nd and 3rd team lost 9-0 to Uppingham, however there were some very strong performances regardless of the result. The U16A team also lost with Uppingham securing a 6-3 win. However, the 1st team pulled off a memorable victory against Uppingham, pipping them 5-4 and stealing the victory. Credit must go to Ben Cadell (U6) and Henry Budgen-Morriberon (5th) who fought back from 5-2 down to win 7-5 and win the deciding match. Both boys showed immense grit and determination to secure the victory for the 1st team! Next week sees the boy’s tennis team take on Oakham. There are two training sessions before next Saturday, so each and every player will be working hard on improving their techniques from this weekend to put them in the best possible shape for the fixture next Saturday. Congratulations to all boys involved and best of luck for next week against Oakham. Joseph White (L6) Tennis Captain
