Dear Mrs Kerr-Dineen,

Yesterday was our first time any of the team had played Bedford modern. The anticipation was noticeable as our water polo team began to ready up for what we initially assumed would be a straightforward match. However, our confidence quickly plateaued upon arrival at the venue, as the sight of the formidable GB Water Polo shirts worn by the Old Bedford Modernians and the numerous plaques commemorating their successes in ESSA competitions left us in no doubt about the challenge that lay ahead.

When the game commenced, we found ourselves conceding an early goal, setting the tone for a tough battle. However, we regrouped quickly, with Alex M. stepping up to the plate and firing back with a swift goal, narrowing the scoreline to 2-1 in favour of Bedford at the end of the first quarter. The second quarter proved to be a struggle for us, as changes in the team dynamics saw us conceding three more goals without managing to find the back of the net ourselves. Despite the setback, we refused to be disheartened and resolved to come back stronger in the next half. True to our determination, we regained our form in the third quarter, with Alex M. once again showcasing his scoring prowess alongside a contribution from Freddie K. and an impressive long-distance goal from Immy J. By the end of the quarter, we had narrowed the gap to 8-4. Entering the final quarter four goals down seemed daunting, but we refused to let the pressure get to us. Monty C.'s heroic saves bolstered our defence, while further goals from Alex M. and Ollie N., who scored his first goal of the season and swiftly followed it up with another, ensured a respectable fightback.

In the end, despite falling short with a final score of 11-8 in favour of Bedford Modern, we held our heads high, proud of our resilience and determination, especially considering the shaky start we had.
