Oundle School vs. Stamford

51-30 loss

The girls had a tough start of the season in their match against Stamford. In the opening quarter Stamford dominated the play, turning over our centers and scoring in succession. Starting the second quarter 14-7 down was a challenge but the movement between Evie P and Fenella J in the D meant we were making a rapid comeback. However, as the quarter progressed, we tired and Stamford made a comeback finishing 28-17 up. In the third quarter Bess C made some fantastic interceptions as center which kept our heads up with hope. Our defence were working tirelessly, Mira A was making some spectacular tips on the ball which successfully rumbled their shooters. Unfortunately Nicole A, our vice captain, suffered a knee injury during the third quarter and we had to play the rest of the match without a substitute defender. In the final quarter we were running out of hope, we were still getting in goals (due to some fantastic shooting from Fenella J and Evie P) however it was near impossible to meet Stamford’s score. We finished the game 51-30 having left all our efforts on the court; I could not be prouder of the girls for our grit and determination and I hope it carries through into our next games.
