Match Report 28.09.23, Oundle v Uppingham

On the 28th of September 2023 the Swimming Team travelled to Uppingham School for an away fixture, which was the team’s first friendly away fixture of this term. We were able to secure a comfortable win over Uppingham, with only one race having been lost to them.

This was an amazing gala for the team, not only because it was the first gala in which we welcomed several new swimmers, but also because 17 personal best times were achieved, and remarkably 3 school records were broken.

I would particularly like to congratulate the following swimmers on their achievements in the gala:

• Ceris Lawrence (Sr 5) for breaking her own school record in the 50m Backstroke, achieving a time of 32.71 seconds.
• Julian Lee (C U6) for breaking his previous school record in the 50m Breaststroke which a time of 31.93 seconds.
• Omorinsola Idowu (W 5) for breaking the school record in the 50m Freestyle, which has been held since 2013. She achieved a time of 29.20 seconds.

I would also like to congratulate the following girls on their first gala as part of the team, we feel very lucky to have them:

• Olivia Perring (W L6) who completed two commendable breaststroke swims before injuring her thumb, but continued to support the team with her shouts of encouragement.
• Jasi Withers (W L6) who competed in several races with the utmost enthusiasm.

The team spirit on the poolside at Uppingham was definitely something to be proud of, with the whole team standing and supporting those swimmers who were racing and even travelling to the ends of the pool to cheer on the swimmers in the Individual Medley races. I cannot wait to see how the team develops throughout the rest of the year and continues
